SETS Installation Instructions
Dear SETS User
Please make sure that you follow the instructions given in this document carefully in order to complete the installation of SETS. To begin with please see if your computer meets the minimum system requirement for SETS listed below
RAM – 256 MB (minimum)
Hard Disk Space – Minimum of 500 MB Space in the Drive SETS is to be installed;
Processor – 1GHz or Above;
Operating System – Windows Xp* (SP-2 or above)/ Windows server 2003* / Windows Vista* / Windows 7*
(* 32 Bits only)
Please follow the below instructions to Download SETS into your computer
- Click on the Download Trial Version
- Then Click on the Download Icon.
- Fill in the relevant information, in the pop up that will come up.
- The Link to Download the software will be sent to the Email ID you have provided.
- Click on this file and Download the File, Make sure the file you are downloading is more than 163MB in Size
- After downloading, please extract the Downloaded file to any location in the computer ( the File will be compressed to save size of download) Make sure the extracted file contains more than 187MB Size
- If you don’t have any uncompressing tool, you may download WinRAR From Here
- Make sure you have closed all other programs which are currently running, if you want this document in hand, you may take a printout of this document
- Now follow the Instruction given below based on your operating system
The Installation Instructions for SETS is different for each Operating System; however we can categorize the instructions into two, as given below:
1. Windows Xp and Windows Server 2003 2. Windows Vista and Windows 7
Windows Xp and Windows Server 2003
Please follow the Steps given below. Where ever there is a difference between windows Xp and Windows Server 2003, they will be notified accordingly in the Steps.
- A. Double Clicking on the Icon Named "SETS" from the extracted file mentioned above.
- A Software Update Installation wizard will appear (please choose the sub steps below for Xp or Server 2003)
- Click on Next
- Click on I Agree to the License agreement of the update installation Wizard and then click Next
- Then Click Finish
- In the next step you will have to choose the Operating System, Choose “YES” if it is Windows Xp/Windows Server 2003, and Otherwise (if windows Vista/Windows 7) Click “NO”.
- After this in some computers a message may appear saying “The instance name specified is Invalid” Click OK to Specify the another Instance name automatically. (Sometimes this message may appear by the end of installation only, Click OK in that case also)
- Now the SETS Installation will begin from this point. Steps will be as following
- To start with Click Next
- The End Users License agreement will Appear, Click Next.
- The next window will Show where all SETS Shortcuts will be available, Click Next to continue
- Make sure all running windows are closed and then click Next
- You can Select the location where SETS is to be installed here, by default it will be C Drive > Program Files. Click Next to continue
- Here you can choose if the shortcut of SETS is to be available in the Start Menu and Desktop (By default it will be available so you need not make any changes here). Click Next to Start Installation
- Now you will have to choose if the computer you are installing is the server or not. Server need not be the main server of the school; it is only referred to as the computer where the database of the students and evaluations is to be maintained by SETS. Please note that in a school only one Server is to be used for SETS.
- Click “YES” if it is Server
- Click “NO” if it is not the Server
- In Windows Server 2003, a message may appear at this point with the message “Your Operating System does not meet the Service Pack level requirement for this SQL Server release….” You need not download any Service Packs to make your computer compatible, you simply have to click “OK”, and the required components will be installed automatically to make your operating system Compatible with SETS.
- If you are using any Antivirus of High level Security, a warning may appear asking you if you Trust the installation, So Click “YES” or Choose “Make Trusted” or Whatever that may appear that will indicate to the antivirus system to accept the installation
- Click on “Finish” and the computer will automatically restart. In case the computer don’t Restart Automatically please make sure the Restart is done manually, in order to complete the installation process of SETS a restart is essential (NOTE: Do not run the program without restarting the System)
- Once the Restart is over Double click on the SETS Icon on your desktop, to open the software
- You will be asked to choose the Server, if this is the first installation, the name of the computer you are on must be chosen as Server from the list. To find out the name of your computer follow the steps below
- Right Click on “My Computer” on your desktop or in your Start Menu
- Select Properties
- In the Properties window you will find a lot of tabs on the top; one of them being “Computer Name”
- Now get back to the window “Server Settings” you have opened earlier by double clicking on the SETS Icon on your desktop. Select the Operating system of your computer first.
- And then select this computer name from the list. And then click on “SET as Server”
- In case the name of the server is not listed, manually type in the name, in the space provided, and click on “SET as Server”
- Now the Login window will appear, by default there will be 2 Users set here they are
- Principal: The password will be “sets”. The principal login will have access to 95% of the software.
- Administrator: The administrator password will be provided to you once you purchase the registration code (pay for the Software).
- At the time of login you will find “How to work with SETS” click on the icon to get all the necessary instructions on how to use SETS, it is recommended to keep a printed copy of this document for future reference.
Note: n some computer with windows server 2003 an error message may appear, asking you to run the “Cryptographic Services on the computer”. You need to click OK at this message, the remedy for this error will happen automatically in the back end.
NOTE: If installing for the First time, Select it as Server, So Click “YES“, if this is the first Installation.

Windows Vista and Windows 7
Before running the setup of SETS in your Windows Vista and Windows 7 system please make sure you have completed the following Control panel settings first
- Click on Start (or the windows icon on the bottom left corner of the screen) and select the control panel
- Select “system and maintenance” from the control panel ( In windows 7 you will find “System and Security” instead)
- Select “Administrative Tools” from the list that appear
- Double click “System Configuration” from the list of administrative tools
- Select the “Tools” tab and then Select “Disable UAC” from the list, and then click on “Launch” on the bottom of the table (In windows 7 in “tools” Tab you will have to select on “Change UAC Settings”. And when you click on Launch here, another windows will appear, you will find a regulator bar, bring the bar down to where it says Never notify, and then click “OK”)
- Now click on “Apply” and then “OK”, and then restart your computer to let the settings to take effect.
Note: If you go to “Run” in the start menu and type in “msconfig” and press enter then you can directly reach to Step E given above, and then you can proceed as above.
After Restarting follow the Steps given below to install SETS in your computer:-
- Double Clicking on the Icon Named "SETS" from the extracted file mentioned above.
- In some computers a "Setup Error" may appear, please click on the "OK" button and proceed, the resolution for the errors at this point will be taken care of, at the background of the installation. Below are some of the possible errors that could appear.
- In the next step you will have to choose the Operating System, Choose “YES” if it is Windows Xp/Windows Server 2003, and Otherwise (if windows Vista/Windows 7) Click “NO”.

- Now wait for a minute or two for a message to appear “Data Configuration Completed Successfully”.
- Now wait for another few minutes for the software to complete all configurations at the background, this process will take about 2 or 3 minutes, and then restart your computer manually, you need not wait for any more confirmation message and when you login again you can start using SETS.
- When you start SETS a Login window will appear, by default there will be 2 Users set here they are
